Carolyn Rae Campbell's Obituary
Carolyn Marcell Campbell, 80, of Waxahachie, Texas, died of thyroid cancer at Mansfield Methodist Hospital on January 3, 2026.
Carolyn was born in Belton, Texas on April 24, 1945 to Dewey C. Alderson and Sarah Loray Bigham. She was the second oldest of eight children, of which she helped raise after her Dad’s passing . Carolyn spent her childhood years in Temple, Texas and later moved to Waco where she met her husband Charles Marcell. Charles and Carolyn raised five children in Duncavill, TX and Cedar Hill, TX’’ until her husband’s death. Carolyn was a school bus driver for Duncanville ISD while her children were young, then worked for the City of Grande Prairie before retiring.
Several years after the death of her first husband, Charles, from cancer, Carolyn returned to Temple and married Joseph Eugene (Gene) Campbell, her childhood sweetheart, on August 29, 2015. She had five wonderful years with Gene until his death in 2020.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Larry Alderson, Stephen Carter, and Aubrey Alderson; sister Donna DeGrazier; sons Matthew C. Marcell and Phillip J. Marcell, and her husbands Charles Marcell and Gene Campbell.
She is survived by brothers Dewey Keith Alderson & wife Virginia, Randy Alderson; sister Bobbie Eitel & husband Steve, daughters Michelle McBee & husband Daniel and Kimberly Cronin & husband Joe; son Charles B. (Chuck) Marcell; cousin Dessie Dragoo; step-daughter Dawn Dryer & husband Gary; step-sons A.J. Campbell and Brian Campbell; grandchildren: Olivia M. Gordon & partner Travis, Hayden Marcell & & wife Sarah, and Kade Cronin; step-granddaughters Meghan Boling & husband Robert, Heather Baughman & husband Terry, Ashley Cronin, and Katherine Ives, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 10:00am at Mansfield Funeral Home & Cremations, 1556 Heritage Pkwy, Mansfield, TX 76063. Burial will follow at 12:00 noon at Little Bethel Memorial Park, 1803 Cedar Hill Rd, Duncanville, TX 75137.
