Cherie Bell
Growing up next door to the Marcells, I irritated Carolyn as a loud chatty kid. But she would teach me a lesson in parenting to this day I carry with me as a teacher. One of her daughters had broken a dish. I figured she was gonna get it, which is how my mother handled such things, accident or not. Carolyn was mad, took a breath, and told the child to leave. I left with her. We walked around the neighborhood and eventually back to the Marcell house. The daughter apologized with tears, and Carolyn hugged her and understood it was an accident.
That scenario would have never happened with my mother. I never knew there were more appropriate ways of dealing with anger at a child. I am eternally grateful for witnessing such compassion and understanding. Rest in peace, dear Carolyn. And say Hi to my Mom. 💐✨🙏
