George William Harris' Obituary
George William Harris the man, the myth, the legend passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday February 24, 2022, in Midlothian, TX at the age of 76. He was born February 6, 1946, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents Frankie Jeanne Woods and Olton Hoyt Harris. He was second born of five sons, Olton Jr., Joe, Buck and Zach.
In 1969 he married Linda Carol Self in Richland Hills, TX and later they were eternally sealed to each other in the Mesa, AZ temple in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They were married for 53 years and together they had five children, Shauna and her husband Ian, Georgeann and her husband Frankie, Ethan and his wife Kristen, Joshua and his wife Jennifer, and Sealey and her husband Christopher. He had 10 grandkids, Max and his wife Mariana, Jacob, Casey, Tatum, Jaden, Jana, Javin, Brenden, McKenna and Chloe. George is currently in Heaven holding his first great grandson who is due to be born in a couple weeks.
George was the valedictorian of his high school class of two students. He went on to spend 6 years serving in the United States Coast Guard aboard the Sebago. He then served in the United States Navy for four years as an air traffic controller. While in the military he earned enough credits to be a college senior in Aeronautics.
After leaving the military he continued his career in air traffic control for the Federal Aviation Administration for more than 35 years before he retired.
Retirement wasn’t for him so he then spent time as an Air Traffic Controller instructor in Oklahoma City before spending a year teaching Air Traffic Control in Kabul, Afghanistan.
He was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings over the years. He also worked in the temple in Dallas, TX.
He was loved by all and entertained everyone he met in his life. It was rare he didn’t meet someone he loved and was always eager and willing to help those in need. Our lives will never be the same without him and we can’t wait to be united again in Heaven
